Ex Norwegian is an indie rock band (power pop / shoegaze) who formed in Miami Beach, FL in 2008. The band name is a Monty Python reference, and consists of Roger Houdaille (vocals and guitar), Carolina Souto (bass guitar and vocals), and Arturo Garcia (drums and vocals).

Ex Norwegian launched at the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City 2008 mere months after their formation, and released two singles: the irresistible Shins-styled folk-pop “Something Unreal” (video below) and the 7” vinyl release “Dance Trance Pants” which falls neatly somewhere in between The Killers and seventies glam epitomized by bands like T. Rex. The enthusiastic response to these singles was accompanied by numerous live performances throughout the US in addition to an appearance on European TV network Sky News where the band performed before millions of viewers excited by the group’s youthful energy and sound described as an “…eclectic mix of powerpop, shoegaze, indie rock, and even hints of stoner rock” by Exploding In Sound.

Ex Norwegian’s second album, Sketch, will be released June 22, 2010.

The band formed in the fall of 1998 from the ashes of local bands The Impossible Five and Colour, when singer-guitarist Jason Simon, bassist Steve Kille, and drummer Mark Laughlin set out to fuse their love of early 70’s hard rock and 60’s psychedelia with their love of writers J.R.R.

Tame Impala are a three piece psychedelic rock band from Perth, Western Australia. The band consists of Kevin Parker (lead guitar and vocals), Dominic Simper (bass guitar) and Jay Watson (drums and backing vocals). Their name refers to the impala, a medium sized antelope. Their musical sound draws from a wide range of influences (most notably Cream and Germany’s Colour Haze) and they like to see themselves as “a steady flowing psychedelic groove rock band that emphasizes dream-like melody.” The band signed a worldwide deal with boutique label Modular Recordings in mid 2008.

“Los Angeles shoegaze outfit Film School have been together for nearly a decade, and with their fourth LP ‘Fission’ coming out on July 20, the band is more congealed than ever, serving up a melodic, fervent, hazy and deeply collaborative effort. Instead of mourning the separation from their label, the band gleaned new inspiration from the change. “It’s like any breakup — you either bury your head in the sand or you use that energy to create something,” lead singer Greg Bertens tells Spinner. “This band’s creative fuel always seems to come from a mix of the freeing energy you get from separation and the challenge to prove you’re still worthy.”

Their new single, ‘Heart Full of Pentagons,’ showcases a shift in sound as bassist Lorelei Plotczyk contributes vocals. With music born of band-practice jam material and idea sprung forth by a friend’s Facebook status, ‘Heart Full of Pentagons’ is an ode to a five-way love triangle — a love pentagon, if you will. It’s a “good, messy” story and a tease of what’s more to come. Film School go on tour this Fall and in the meantime, enjoy the song after the jump.” – Spin

Led by vocalist and songwriter Daniel Anderson, The Rags have built a passionately devoted following on home shores for their sophisticated blend of melodically inventive guitar-pop and razor-sharp lyrical expressiveness.

Announcing their arrival on the scene with a succession of rapturously received EP releases, The Rags return from an extended spell in the recording studio with 12 tracks that provide the foundation for a remarkable modern pop record. ‘A National Light’ will be released on 28th May 2010.

From the album’s Joyce-sampling, Yeats-referencing title track, replete with vivid imagery of returning literary heroes recoiling at “smut magazines and souls as black as sin” to the sordid conspiracies observed amid the swirling web of Smiths-esque guitar hooks and throbbing drumbeats of ‘A Murderous Chant’, the feelings and sentiments expressed on these tracks are underpinned by a unifying sense of purpose.

From the deceptively danceable, Wildean-themed elaboration on superficiality ‘A Mirror To A Woman (Is A Bullet In A Gun)‘ to the quiet desperation at the heart of the delicately psychedelic ‘Owner Of A Loveless Life’, ‘A National Light’ laments the spirit-crushing travails of modernity while shining a benelovant beam of consolation on us all.
